Baylor Men’s Tennis

Baylor bears tennis is referred to the men’s tennis game of University of Baylor. And the men in the university are known as the Bears, and the women’s teams are referred as the Lady Bears. In NCAA Division 1 college tennis, the University of Baylor’s is represented by the Baylor men’s tennis. The team belongs to the Big 12 Conference and all the home games are played at the Baylor tennis Center. The Baylor men’s tennis is presently led by head trainer Matt Knoll. The 2009 season manifest trainer Knoll's 13th year at the controls of the program.

In the year 1970 the Men's tennis was first introduced at the Baylor’s University, but it gained fame as a sport on campus after the arrival of Matt Knoll in 1997. Followed by a 13-12 campaign in his opening year, trainer Knoll directed the team to its first NCAA Tournament participation in 1998. The team made 12 direct NCAA Tournament facades, approaching to the level16 or farther in nine of those twelve years.

Before joining the Big 12, Baylor men’s tennis was a part of the Southwest Conference from the conference's charter in 1914 until its termination in 1996. In 2004 championship game the Baylor bears tennis team defeated UCLA and won its first team NCAA title. They lost to UCLA in the 2005 national championship match by a very close margin. Baylor bear alumnus Benjamin Becker beat Andre Agassi in Agassi's final professional match at the U.S. Open. The amulets of Baylor University are the two black bears named Joy and Lady.

First conference championship was won in the year 2000 by the Baylor men’s tennis team. The team has since won 8 straight conference championships dating back to 2002 and has won the conference tournament 7 times in the past 8 years. Baylor Tennis Center has hosted numerous postseason events since it is constructed. It has hosted First and Second Round action of the NCAA tournament seven times (2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, & 2008) and has hosted the Big 12 Tournament twice (2001 & 2006).
